Value-added service

Stop fuel theft at the tank with TankSafe®

TankSafe® is a physical fuel security solution, available through Powerfleet as a value-added service for trucks and buses over 3.5 tonnes with externally mounted tanks. Buy it outright or pay over 6 or 12 months, after which the equipment is yours. It helps protect fuel in the tank before it can be siphoned, skimmed, drained or spilled.

See what fuel theft could be costing you

Fuel theft can become a recurring monthly cost, even when the loss per fill-up seems small. The savings calculator estimates potential loss by assuming 25 litres are taken after each fill-up, then compares that with the estimated cost of the recommended TankSafe® solution, supplied and fitted, so customers can see the potential savings before booking an assessment.
Actual savings will depend on fleet size, refuelling frequency, fuel price and whether each vehicle needs filler-neck protection only, or SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® as part of the TankSafe® Full Lockdown System.

How to use the savings calculator

The savings calculator takes less than 30 seconds. Enter a few details about your fleet, and we will estimate how much fuel theft may be costing you and how much you could save.

TankSafe® Full Lockdown System

Fuel theft can happen through multiple points on the tank. The table below lists the main access points TankSafe® can help protect and the fitment options for each, depending on the vehicle and tank design.
Stage Component Protection focus
Stage 1 TankSafe® Shield® or TankSafe® Optimum® Helps prevent siphoning and skimming from the filler opening while still allowing for fast refuelling.
Stage 2 SenderSafe® Fuel sender unit protection against unauthorised removal of the sender assembly.
Stage 3 DrainSafe® Prevents fuel being drained by replacing the OEM drain plug with an anti-tamper drainplug that requires a coded tool for installation or removal (sold separately).
DrainSafe®
SenderSafe®
SenderSafe®
SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® are not automatically included on every vehicle. They are recommended only when the vehicle assessment identifies the sender unit or drain point as vulnerable to theft.
Key features
  • TankSafe® Shield® or TankSafe® Optimum® for filler-neck protection.
  • SenderSafe® protection for vulnerable fuel sender units.
  • DrainSafe® protection for vulnerable drain points.

How TankSafe®
protects your fuel

Fuel theft can happen through multiple points on the tank. The table below lists the main access points TankSafe® can help protect and the fitment options for each, depending on the vehicle and tank design.
Access point Product What it does
Filler neck TankSafe® Shield® or TankSafe® Optimum® Helps prevent siphoning and skimming from the filler opening while still allowing fast refuelling.
Fuel sender unit SenderSafe® Helps prevent unauthorised removal of the fuel sender assembly and access through that point.
Drain point DrainSafe® Prevents fuel being drained by replacing the OEM drain plug with an anti-tamper drainplug that requires a coded tool for installation or removal (sold separately).

Protect fuel before it is lost

TankSafe® helps fleets reduce preventable fuel loss by protecting vulnerable points on the tank. That means fewer theft-related disruptions, and tighter control over fuel already purchased.
Stop common theft methods
TankSafe® helps secure vulnerable access points, including the filler neck, fuel sender unit, and drain point, depending on the fitment recommended for each vehicle.
Protect margin
Fuel that is siphoned, skimmed or drained is fuel the business has already paid for. Preventing that loss keeps more value in the operation.
Reduce fuel administration
Less time spent on avoidable fuel-theft investigations.
Improve fuel data quality
Reducing the risk of theft and spillage makes fuel consumption figures easier to interpret and more useful for planning.
Match the solution to the risk
Some vehicles may only need filler-neck protection. Others may need the Full Lockdown System across all three access points.
Built for long-term use
TankSafe®, SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® are backed by a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty with maintenance-free parts.

Frequently asked questions

Is the savings calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free and carries no commitment.
How long does the assessment take?
The current draft says the assessment typically takes about 30 minutes and can be done remotely. Confirm this with the team before publishing if it has not already been signed off.
Is TankSafe® suitable for small fleets?
Yes, where the vehicles are eligible. TankSafe® is designed for commercial vehicles with externally mounted tanks. Final eligibility is confirmed during the assessment.
What is the difference between TankSafe® Shield® and TankSafe® Optimum®?
TankSafe® Shield® is the entry-level filler-neck anti-siphon option for suitable tanks with longer filler necks. TankSafe® Optimum® is the premium option for larger tanks and shorter filler necks, using a patented one-way float valve to keep the chamber dry when the tank is full.
When is Shield® recommended instead of Optimum®?
Shield® is typically recommended where the filler neck is long enough for the device to remain above the diesel level once fitted. Optimum® is typically recommended for heavy and extra-heavy commercial vehicles with larger tanks and shorter filler necks.
What is the TankSafe® Full Lockdown System?
The TankSafe® Full Lockdown System secures the three main fuel tank access points: the filler neck, fuel sender unit and drain point. It combines TankSafe® Shield® or TankSafe® Optimum® with SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® where the client operation and vehicle assessment identify those points as vulnerable.
Are SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® always included?
No. SenderSafe® and DrainSafe® are recommended only where the vehicle assessment identifies the sender unit or drain point as vulnerable to theft. Some vehicles may only need TankSafe® Shield® or TankSafe® Optimum®, while others may need the Full Lockdown System.
What warranty applies?
A 3-year manufacturer’s warranty applies to TankSafe®, SenderSafe® and DrainSafe®.
What does the free installation offer include?

We waive the installation fee for qualifying customers who book a fuel security assessment and proceed with a TankSafe® fitment.

Can I see a live demonstration?
TankSafe® is a mechanical fuel security fitment with no software screen to demonstrate. The team can show the devices and explain how each one protects a different access point on the tank.
Is the solution available for passenger cars and light delivery vehicles?
No. TankSafe® is designed for commercial vehicles with externally mounted tanks. Final vehicle eligibility is confirmed during the assessment.
Can I transfer the anti-siphon device when I sell a vehicle?
Generally, no. The system is designed to be fitted once and left in place. Tank necks and tank sizes vary across makes and models, which can require different-sized devices.
